Let me just start by saying that I don’t believe that I need to explain myself. However, most of the followers I had know I welcomed my son, Baden, into our family in April of 2011. What you may not realize is that since his birth I haven’t even had time to have a good sit-down session with him and I know it will never happen as long as I keep a busy schedule. Let me just say that my schedule is busy with my family, school, and basketball; and in addition I have noticed more and more that when my heart condition flares up it is hanging on a lot longer than in the past. So, I decided to take a hiatus from photography so I can focus on my family first and foremost. Even with this extra time from not taking on clients or new work I have found that I still cannot manage to get a good session with my family or even to get some updated pics of Baden. So, I sat down a few days ago after finally uploading our annual family photos from Thanksgiving and spent the past few evening processing photos. Lets just say I had from Baden’s birthday in April all the way to Thanksgiving worth of pictures to work through, and even then it was not that many because I haven’t had time (still) to take many!
But not to dissapoint, here is a few of my boy who is getting so big!
He is such a great little boy and just as fun as his sister is! Speaking of the Maggie Moo, I managed to get one of her back this summer while she was taking a bath in the “big bath tub” in our master bathroom!
She is just as beautiful as her mother is 🙂
I will politely take this opportunity to state that as I focus my time on my family and work, I will not be taking on any new clients until I feel I have time and passion to dedicate to photography.
Well, it has been almost a month since the arrival of our new baby boy, Baden. Once we got home, I couldn’t wait to take some more “formal” pictures of my son. I had taken quite a few in the hospital, and I will love and cherish those photos, but I wanted to do some special ones for Alie and I and our family. I am pleased and proud to introduce our new son, Baden!
This is one of my favorites!
And just for Alie, her own little collage of our boy getting a good yawn during our shoot.
That’s right, our little family of 3 is increasing by 1 more! I have been asking Alie if she would like to do some maternity photos in hopes she would say yes. Here lately she has been so ready for all of the little nuances of being pregnant to go away just so she can enjoy this last pregnancy and her family. Our new son, who coincidentally is due in 5 days, has been giving his mother a hard time and I just wanted to do something to make her feel better about herself. She finally agreed to some “quick” pictures in the backyard a few weekends ago and said that she may be up for more in the coming weeks until his delivery. Lets just say that she hasn’t been in the mood for any more pictures since our quick session, so she finally let me post what I did have. I think she still looks just as beautiful as ever and of course sweet Maggie had to be included to make for some memorable photos!
And just a cute moment between Alie and Maggie who were making faces at each other 🙂
Unfortunately I’m not talking about my extended family and the holidays! I am talking about the for real circus, Barnum and Bailey style! We have made it a tradition of taking Maggie to the circus and she loves it! This year she was super excited to go see the “unicorn.” I know what you all are thinking, didn’t they get out of the side-show acts like a long time ago. Yes, they did. For some reason, Maggie thought there was going to be a unicorn at the circus and was excited to see it. We had to play off one of the little ponies as a unicorn so she wouldn’t get too disappointed. The sad part is, we have tried to explain to her what is real and was is not real, and we just didn’t have the heart to break her excitement while en route to the circus when she threw that curveball at us. After watching the entire circus, all I have to say is that last year’s was much better. More excitement, more tricks, more entertaining. This year’s was just kinda…ho-hum. In fact, I looked back on the action shots I had and the other cool pics from last year and realized I had nothing to compare to it. I did end up with a couple of pics of Maggie that I decided to share (hence the post). One is similar to last year where she is just sitting by herself watching and there was just a little bit of light falling on her face. The other is a sweet memory of Maggie sitting on mommy’s lap…
Please know that both of these pictures were taken via available light. No special light modifiers or hours worth of Photoshopping required here. These were just like I remember them and just how I want all of my clients to remember their sessions and those they love. No special magic or endless hours processing photographs to make them look artificial, just some good old-fashioned creativity and talent 🙂
In case you don’t know what that means, that is what is generally used to represent D raised to the third power, or D-cubed. It was Daddy-Daughter Day again as Alie was helping with the Encores and More North Consignment sale leaving Maggie and I to spend the day together. We went on some errand runs this morning so I could get a few extra things for my classroom. After running around, we went over to the Streets of Indian lake and took a few pictures so I could have a few of her near her third birthday. She was looking quite cute today in her polka-dots and little bunny necklace, and I was ready to test my new 50mm lens that hadn’t had a proper testing yet. Just take a look:
(I love this one. She is scrunching her nose and forcing a smile :))
Bunny even made it to the shoot! According to Maggie, he was feeling left out!
We got to spend a portion of last week over in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. This is where Alie and I went on our honeymoon almost 7 years ago, and boy has it continued to grow and change since we were here last. We had the whole family with us this time — Juju, Poppie Eddie, the Freeman family, and of course little Maggie. We had such a great time with each other and (besides the go-carts) the most fun I had was at the aquarium we visited. It was the Ripley’s Aquarium in Gatlinburg, and it was so much fun. Alie and I had also visited this aquarium when we were here last, and it too had improved. The kids loved all that the aquarium had to offer, and I managed to get a few pictures while we were there.
The aquarium had these tank observation windows that emitted a wonderful blue light and had a shade of blue that you would have to see to believe.
I love this picture of Maggie and Bunny…it is what gave me inspiration for the title of this post.
This is what she was staring at.
Maggie has a new love for penguins!
Alie and I also wanted to get a quick picture to prove that I still exist and that we can still have fun together 🙂
It was that time again! Alie was away for most of the day on Saturday leaving Maggie and I time to spend together. I brainstormed through different ideas of what we could do together, but she is just at that age where she want to play! So, first we went to a new play place over at the Streets of Indian Lake called Peek-a-boo Playtown. They recently opened and I thought Maggie would just love to give it a try! So, off we went with high hopes and let me say that we were not disappointed. Maggie had the best time playing with all of their different play centers. I was most impressed by the cleanliness of the facilities. I know it is a new location, but in the almost two hours we were there, I saw numerous employees walking around cleaning and picking up the toys. Yes, I said cleaning! All of the toys and play areas were cleaned and disinfected regularly so I had no worries about Maggie and all she had to do is just play!
Afterwards, we went over to the walk-thru fountain to enjoy some water action and to let Maggie cool off. Alie and I tried to take her last year, but she was scared of the fountain. This year, she was ready to dive right in…so I thought. I think she spent the first 30 minutes running laps around the entire fountain, but after some coaxing I finally got her to go into the fountain and to get wet! The funny thing is that she thought it was some kind of water drinking fountain too. She kept stepping up to the spurts of water as if she were at a drinking fountain attempting to get a drink! Anyway, she had an absolute blast and I enjoyed every minute of our time together 🙂
I just love the way she would go play with the water before it got high enough “get her!”
